Enhancing the Research Environment

We are working with faculty and staff across the university to enhance research excellence by delivering programs and initiatives that build on our fundamental support services.

The VP Research and Innovation Portfolio is guided by the needs of UBC researchers and by UBC’s strategic plan, Shaping UBC’s Next Century. We respond directly to the strategies associated with the core areas of research excellence and are inspired by the plan’s themes of innovation, collaboration and inclusion.

Below are some of the ways we are striving to enhance the research environment at UBC.

SHARED RESEARCH PLATFORMS

We develop shared platforms for researchers to access specialized services, training and equipment. These platforms currently provide support for researchers in any discipline who work with animals or plants, require DNA/RNA sequencing, cryo-TEM imaging or trace element analysis, use population data or have advanced research computing needs.

Responsible Conduct of Research

UBC is committed to supporting researchers to do their best work, which includes acting honestly, accountably, openly and fairly in the search for and dissemination of knowledge. The Office of the VPRI leads UBC's Scholarly Integrity Initiative, which is built on these principles and designed to support an ethical research environment throughout the design, conducting and publishing of UBC research.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN THE RESEARCH COMMUNITY
UBC is one of 17 Canadian post-secondary institutions that are participating in the pilot project of the federal Dimensions program, which seeks to identify and eliminate obstacles and inequities for marginalized and under-represented people in research. UBC's pilot initiative is led by the Office of the VPRI and UBC's Equity and Inclusion Office.
