SPARC in collaboration with UBC applicants has developed a new resource - a guide to completing the Partner Organization Form for partner organizations. The guide can be accessed in the NSERC Resources webpage of the SPARC website (CWL-protected) and can be freely shared with partner organizations.

Dr. Pieter Cullis is a recipient of the 2021 Prince Mahidol Award in recognition of his pioneering work on lipid nanoparticles (LNP), which has been critical to the development of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines and other life-saving medicines.

Associate professor Nicola Levell has won the American Anthropological Association’s Council of Museum Anthropology’s 2021 Michael Ames Prize for Innovative Museum Anthropology for her project Shadows, Strings & Other Things (the physical and the digital exhibitions) and her edited volume Bodies of Enchantment: Puppets of Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas (2021).

The 2022/23 Northern Scientific Training Program (NSTP) is now open for applications. The NSTP supports student research in the North by supplying supplementary funds to offset the additional costs of Northern research.

The UBC Collaborative Research Mobility Awards (CRMA) program is now open again. It provides up to $5000 to support new or existing research partnerships between UBC researchers in the Okanagan and Vancouver. Faculty members from all disciplines are invited to apply. Funding may be used to cover travel and accommodation costs associated with meetings, accessing specialized equipment, or other partnership activities.

The Tri-Agency Panel on Research Ethics (PRE) proposed policy guidance released in June 2021 related to harmonized ethics review of multi-jurisdictional research. REBC and UBC (on behalf of the affiliated REBs with the exclusion of BCC) recently submitted their response, which wholeheartedly supports the overall objective of a single REB review for multi-site research, but which also identifies numerous issues with the model that the PRE is proposing.
